When you hear the word honeymoon, there's a pretty good chance you immediately picture a beach.
Turquoise water.
White sand.
Palm trees.
Drinks beside the pool.
And honestly?
There's absolutely nothing wrong with that honeymoon.
But what if sitting on a beach for seven days isn't really you two?
Maybe you'd rather wake up surrounded by mountains.
Wander cobblestone streets in Europe.
Spend an afternoon at a vineyard.
Hike somewhere incredible.
Or disappear into a cabin in the woods where your only plans involve a fireplace, a hot tub, and figuring out what adventure you're going on tomorrow.
Your honeymoon doesn't have to look like everyone else's.
Especially in the fall.
For couples who want a little more adventure, exploring, food, scenery, and cozy romance, there are so many other ways to celebrate your first trip as newlyweds.
Here are five of my favorites.

There is something about the mountains in fall that just feels romantic.
Cool mornings.
Changing leaves.
Scenic overlooks.
Little mountain towns.
And evenings that practically require a fireplace.
A mountain honeymoon can also give you that perfect combination of adventure and relaxation.
Spend your days hiking, chasing waterfalls, horseback riding, kayaking, taking scenic drives, or exploring nearby towns.
Then come back to somewhere beautiful.
Order an amazing dinner.
Pour a glass of wine.
Get into the hot tub.
And enjoy the fact that you don't have anywhere else you need to be.
Whether you're looking toward the Smoky Mountains, Blue Ridge Mountains, Colorado, New England, or somewhere farther from home, mountains can give adventurous couples the best of both worlds.
Hiking boots during the day. Luxury at night.
That's my kind of honeymoon.

Maybe your idea of romance isn't getting away from everything.
Maybe it's being right in the middle of somewhere you've always dreamed of visiting.
Imagine spending your honeymoon wandering through Paris.
Eating your way through Rome.
Exploring Prague.
Taking a train through Switzerland.
Visiting castles.
Finding tiny cafés.
Walking down cobblestone streets with absolutely no idea what's around the next corner.
And yes...
Getting slightly lost together is practically part of the experience.
😂
A European honeymoon can also let you experience several destinations in one trip.
You could combine cities, countryside, mountains, food, history, and even wine regions.
Instead of waking up every morning wondering which beach chair you're choosing...
You're waking up wondering:
"What are we discovering today?"

If food and wine are part of your love language, this one might be calling your name.
Fall can be an incredible time to visit wine regions, especially around harvest season.
Think rolling vineyards.
Beautiful countryside.
Long lunches.
Winery visits.
Small towns.
Amazing restaurants.
And evenings where nobody is rushing you anywhere.
You could explore Napa or Sonoma in California.
Turn Tuscany into a romantic Italian honeymoon.
Experience Portugal's Douro Valley.
Or pair one of France's wine regions with a few days exploring Paris.
And here's the best part:
A wine-country honeymoon doesn't have to be packed with plans.
Sometimes the experience is simply slowing down enough to enjoy where you are, and who you're there with.

Some couples relax on their honeymoon.
Other couples come home needing a vacation from their honeymoon.
😂
If you're the couple who is constantly asking "What should we do next?", build your honeymoon around that.
Go hiking.
Kayak somewhere beautiful.
Explore caves.
See waterfalls.
Try horseback riding.
Visit national parks.
Go snorkeling or diving.
See wildlife.
Explore glaciers.
Take the scenic route.
Book the experience you've both been talking about forever.
Destinations like Iceland, Costa Rica, the Alps, New Zealand, or America's national parks can turn a honeymoon into one giant adventure.
And there's something pretty special about beginning married life by doing something you've never done before.
You get to come home with stories that start with:
"Remember on our honeymoon when we..."
Those are the memories you keep.

Then there's the honeymoon for couples who are completely exhausted after planning a wedding.
You don't want another itinerary.
You don't want crowds.
You don't even necessarily want to fly anywhere.
You just want to disappear together.
Find a beautiful cabin surrounded by fall foliage.
Give me huge windows overlooking the mountains.
A fireplace.
Oversized blankets.
A deck surrounded by trees.
And yes...
I'm absolutely choosing the one with the private hot tub.
Sleep late.
Drink coffee together.
Go hiking if you feel like it.
Explore a nearby town.
Find an incredible restaurant.
Come back to the cabin.
Light the fireplace.
Open a bottle of wine.
And realize something pretty wonderful:
You're married, the wedding planning is over, and nobody needs anything from you right now.
Sometimes that's exactly the honeymoon you need.

That's really what all of this comes down to.
There isn't one correct way to honeymoon.
If the two of you love beaches, then let's find you an incredible beach.
But if you'd rather spend your honeymoon hiking through the mountains?
Do that.
If you've always dreamed about Europe?
Go.
If your favorite dates revolve around food and wine?
Build a honeymoon around them.
If you're both exhausted and want a cabin in the middle of nowhere?
Disappear.
And if you want adventure during the day and luxury at night?
Well...
Now you're speaking my language.
Your honeymoon should be about celebrating your relationship.
Not recreating someone else's idea of romance.

Your honeymoon doesn't need palm trees to be romantic.
Romance can look like...
🍂 Fall leaves underneath your hiking boots.
🏔️ Mountains outside your window.
🏰 Cobblestone streets in a city you've never explored.
🍷 Wine overlooking a vineyard.
🥾 An adventure you can't believe you actually did.
🔥 A fireplace inside a cabin hidden in the woods.
The destination might look different for every couple.
But the goal is the same:
Go somewhere that makes you excited to experience the world together.
Because the wedding might be one incredible day.
Your honeymoon is the beginning of something even better.
Your next adventure.

At Ever After Escapes, we don't believe your honeymoon should come from a one-size-fits-all list.
We want to know about you two.
What do you love doing together?
Do you want mountains or cities?
Adventure or relaxation?
Food and wine?
History and culture?
A little luxury?
A lot of adventure?
Maybe all of the above?
We'll help you find the destination, accommodations, and experiences that fit the kind of honeymoon you actually want.
Because your first trip as newlyweds shouldn't feel like everybody else's honeymoon.
It should feel like yours.
Tell us what your dream honeymoon looks like.
Even if you don't know where in the world to find it yet.
That's where we come in.
