Scotland Has Been Calling My Name... And Next Year, I'm Finally Answering

There are some destinations that simply make you think, "One day..."

For me, Scotland has always been one of those places.

Next year, that dream finally becomes reality as I travel to Edinburgh and begin exploring one of the most breathtaking countries I've ever imagined visiting. The excitement has been building for months, and honestly, I feel like a kid counting down to Christmas.

As someone who loves history, incredible food, dramatic landscapes, and a little movie magic, Scotland checks every box.

The Scottish Highlands

When I picture Scotland, the first image that comes to mind is the Highlands.

Rolling green hills that stretch as far as the eye can see.

Misty mountains rising above ancient glens.

Crystal-clear lochs reflecting the morning sun.

I've seen thousands of photos, watched countless travel videos, and every single one leaves me saying, "I have to see that with my own eyes."

There's something peaceful and almost magical about the Highlands that can't be explained until you've stood there yourself.

Yes... I'm Excited About the Highland Cows

I know it sounds funny, but one of the things I'm most looking forward to is seeing the famous Highland cows.

Those shaggy coats.

Those giant curved horns.

That permanently windswept hairstyle.

They've become an icon of Scotland, and I already know I'll probably take way too many pictures of them.

No regrets.

Walking Through Real Castles

One thing Europe does better than almost anywhere else is preserving history.

Scotland is home to hundreds of castles, each with stories of kings, queens, battles, clans, and legends.

I can't wait to walk through centuries-old stone halls, climb ancient towers, and imagine what life was like hundreds of years ago.

Places like Edinburgh Castle, Eilean Donan Castle, and the countless ruins scattered throughout the countryside make Scotland feel like stepping into another world.

All Aboard the Harry Potter Train

As a lifelong fan of the Harry Potter films, riding the Jacobite Steam Train is near the top of my list.

Crossing the Glenfinnan Viaduct—the very bridge made famous as the Hogwarts Express route—is going to be one of those moments I've dreamed about for years.

Whether you're a Harry Potter fan or simply appreciate incredible scenery, it's considered one of the most beautiful train rides in the world.

I already know my camera is going to get a workout.

Scotland's Rugged Coastline

Most people think about castles and mountains when they think of Scotland.

I'm equally excited to explore its coastline.

Towering sea cliffs.

Quiet fishing villages.

Hidden beaches.

Ancient lighthouses.

The North Sea crashing against dramatic rock formations.

There's something incredibly peaceful about standing where land meets the sea, especially in a place with so much history.

Bring On the Food

Anyone who knows me knows that one of my favorite parts of traveling is eating.

Every destination tells its story through its food, and Scotland is no exception.

I'm looking forward to trying:

• Fresh Atlantic salmon

• Fish and chips by the coast

• Scottish beef

• Traditional steak pie

• Cullen skink (a creamy smoked haddock soup)

• Sticky toffee pudding

• Fresh bakery treats

• Local cheeses

• And yes... I'll probably even give haggis a try.

Half the fun of travel is stepping outside your comfort zone—and sometimes that starts with what's on your plate.

Why I Love Traveling

Travel isn't just about checking countries off a map.

It's about collecting experiences.

Meeting people.

Learning history.

Trying foods you've never heard of.

Watching sunsets in places you once only saw in books.

Every destination changes you a little.

Every trip gives you stories you'll tell for the rest of your life.

I have a feeling Scotland is going to be one of those places I'll never forget.
